I first heard of this song when âȘNatalie Merchant⏠and 10,000 Maniacs covered it on MTV Unplugged and released it on their 2004 album “Campfire Songs: The Popular, Obscure and Unknown Recordings of 10,000 Maniacs” with âȘDavid Byrne joining on vocals. It was also the main title theme to The Leftovers Season 2 and series finale!

A Memory Grows is pleased to announce that the Wave of Light will be held in-person again this year at the beautiful Pavilion #1 in Trinity Park located in Fort Worth, Texas on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. We are thrilled to partner with Team Mercy, Holy Sews and M.E.N.D. to offer this night of community and support. *M.E.N.D. will also be hosting a Wave of Light Ceremony at The Garden of Hope in Irving, Texas. More information will be posted about that site at a later time at www.mend.org.*
Please bring your own candle that is enclosed in glass to place on the stage as we speak our childrenâs names and allow their light to shine. You can bring one candle per family or multiple candles, whatever you choose. Each family is also welcome to bring a Token of Remembrance to sit next to the candle. This can be a photo, a stuffed animal, a blanket, etc.
This special event is open to all ages and all parents, siblings, family members and friends. Please bring your own lawn chairs or a blanket to sit comfortably on the lawn.
This event is free to attend but we ask that you register below so we can plan accordingly!
The International Wave of Light
The International Wave of Light is an annual event that takes place on Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day, October 15. Candles are lit around the world in all time zones at 7:00pm and they remain lit for exactly 1 hour. As the candles are extinguished at 8:00pm the next time zone is lighting their candles and the wave of light continues as a symbol of the light and love of our children filling the world. Parents, family and friends are encouraged to light candles in memory of their children. One of the most meaningful gifts that a loss parent can receive is knowing that their child is being remembered. This simple gesture touches their heart and assures them that they are not alone.
About the Event
Team Mercy, A Memory Grows, MEND and Holy Sews are coming together to present the Wave of Light in Dallas Fort Worth as a community event to celebrate and remember our babies. Two locations will be hosting the Wave of Light to allow as many participants as possible to gather with a community that understands the journey of grief that surrounds the death of a child. The Wave of light is a free event and open to the entire community.
**Everyone who is attending should plan to bring a candle enclosed in glass to be lit during the ceremony. This can be a prefilled votive or a glass jar such as an old spaghetti sauce or jelly jar with a candle placed inside. You are welcome to decorate your candles before arriving so that each child will be represented in a beautiful and unique way. If you forget your candle, we will have a few extras.
Please begin arriving at 6:30 p.m. for fellowship, visit the partner booths, and to setup your lawn chairs/blanket. We will begin the ceremony at approximately 6:50 p.m. and begin lighting candles at 7:00 p.m. The ceremony will include an introduction of the event, a book reading and stories from parents who have experienced loss due to miscarriage, stillbirth or infant loss. Wave of Light will be held rain or shine.
