Fun facts and figures you may not have known (or even cared to know for that matter)
about Brad Thompson and his band mates. For an added challenge try to keep up with the band roster and name.

1992 - 1993 - 1994 - 1995 - 1996 - 1997 - 1998 - 1999 - 2000 - 2001 - 2002 - 2003 - 2004 - 2005 - 2006 - 2007 - 2008 - 2009 - 2010

1992

Dec 5 Rehearsals for Brad's new band begin. The band will rehearse with three different drummers, two different bass players & three different back-up singers before we even play our first gig scheduled for Jan 31.

Dec 15 Brad begins playing a solo gig at a little pub in Dallas called Chelsea Corner. It would be a regular Tuesday night gig for him until May '95.

1993

Jan 31 Brad Thompson & His Undulating Acoustic Band play their first gig at Chumley's in Deep Ellum after the Super Bowl. Brad talks his friend Ronald Ward into bringing his big screen TV down to the club to attract a crowd during the game while the band sets up. Reggie Rueffer, Eddie Allen, Hilary Tipps, Norm Bergeron, Jim Vernon, Aden Bubeck & Brad all argue over which channel to watch while they play. They settle on Lifetime.

Mar 1 Brad sends resume to Sony Records A&R office in Dallas to be considered for a job. Doesn't hear back.

Mar 6 Brad takes "gig" as valet at a private hospital in Dallas.

April Band plays gigs around town - Karma Cafe in Denton, Poor David's Pub in Dallas, The Hop in Fort Worth, Chumley's in Dallas and Fatso's in Arlington where Brad meets the unforgettable Chuck Ebert. Chuck runs sound at Fatso's and will produce the band's first CD which comes out the end of ‘93.

Apr 10 Brad gives a tape of the band to Arthur Riddles, keyboardist for Dallas reggae band, Leroy Shakespeare and His Ship of Vibes. Thinks it would be "cool" to open for them despite his pronounced lack of dreadlocks.

May Brad let's go of the "Acoustic" in the name of the band and opts for electric guitarists Dwayne Bollmeyer and Chad Rueffer rather than the violin and piano. This is widely regarded as the beginning of the perpetually shifting band roster.

June 1 Chad R. offers to do the band a favor. His band Mildred was big at Club Dada not so long ago, so he figures he has some pull and can get the band a show there. Booking agent doesn't care for Brad, won't book him even though he really likes Chad.

July 1 Brad sends tape of band to his friends and Dallas' "next big thing" Jack and Carey of Jackopierce in hopes of opening gig.

July 4 Independence Day - band plays big, all day show at Starplex with groups like Joe Walsh and Steven Stills. The band is compensated with all the hot dogs they care to eat. They opt, instead, to eat Joe Walsh.

July 10 Band opens for Doyle Bramhall at Fatso's in Arlington, TX. Doyle Bramhall wonders what he is doing playing a bar called Fatso's in Arlington of all places.

Aug 4 Band plays Liberty Drug Norman, OK

Aug 7 BT & HUB begins a successful run at The Country Coffee House in Tyler, TX. Very intimate setting, especially with a six piece band, great time. The Coffee House no longer has live music. To this day Brad insists this is due mainly to "airline deregulation" and not the fact that he brought seven hyper musicians in to a very intimate (roughly the size of the average water closet) room and played loud songs about loud girls.

Brad Thompson & His Undulating Acoustic Band after a show in Tyler, TX
l-r: Gaye Stockdale, Hilary Tipps, Brad, Keith Claunch, Aden Bubeck, Chad Rueffer

Aug 8 Band plays J. Gilligan's Arlington, TX. The gods begin to frown . . .

Aug 11 Band plays The Hop Fort Worth, TX. The gods find this slightly amusing . . .

Aug 12-14 Brad plays lead acoustic guitar for Elizabeth Wills (incredible Fort Worth songwriter) on a three day run through Oklahoma. Forced to hitchhike home after Brad eats car keys.

Aug 19 Band plays Karma Cafe Denton, TX. Still a seven member band on a four-man stage in between the three-man sofa and the two-man bathrooms.

Aug 26 Band plays Chumley's Dallas, TX - no big screen TV this time.

Oct 3 Band opens for Frank Moreno of Mahogany Rush at Caravan of Dreams. Brad is joined by Al Mouledous on violin and Jerry Rossen on keyboards. Nobody, including paying audience members, is really sure who Frank Moreno is.

Oct 15 Brad plays solo before Jackopierce at Trees in Dallas. Meets Spyche who does a solo opener that night too. Several people claim to have witnessed clocks running backwards.

Nov 3 Liberty Drug Norman, OK w/ Keith Claunch-drums, Mike Brijones-bass, Brian Moore-guitar

Nov 4 Willie's in Stillwater, OK

Dec 20 Radio Active Recording Studios, Burleson, TX - The band begins recording a basic three song demo for cassette that becomes an 8 song CD later that year which would finally be completed in December ‘94. Before the CD is completed the entire band would quit (all at the same time) except for Aden Bubeck.

1994

Jan 2 Liberty Drug, Norman, OK w/ Keith Claunch-drums, Aden Bubeck-bass, Dwayne Bollmeyer-guitar

Jan 3 Willie's, Stillwater, OK. Brad meets the band Medicine Show from Stillwater, they hit it off, hang out that night and they tell Brad about some clubs in Colorado that they play all the time. A flurry of phone numbers and club names are exchanged and Brad is on the phone to CO the next day. However nobody is home in Colorado so Brad has to leave a message.

Mar Sometime in March Brad meets up with drummer Keith at U.N.T. photography studio in Denton, TX to shoot cover for new CD. Keith is an excellent photographer. They experiment with a roll of infrared film and, after Brad suffers several radiation burns, a CD cover is born.

Mar 23 Brad begins work on design of new CD with graphic artists Terri Stone and Kristee Wooster. Terri scratches out a band logo on a bar napkin and scans it directly into her computer. Brad loves it. It's the same logo the band uses to this day as seen on two CD covers, countless T-shirt designs, bumper stickers, temporary tattoos, candles, etc.

Apr 22 U.T. Arlington, TX - band plays Earth Day Festival w/ Keith Claunch-drums, Kipp Green-bass Brad meets Michael Powell, then a history major and head of Progressive Student's Union, who would later become Music Editor for FW Weekly in ‘96.

May 28 Brad heads out a day early for band's Austin show to swing through Klein,TX (a Houston suburb) and find Lyle Lovett's home. Gets directions to his house from an antique dealer in town. Just when Brad pulls out of the antique store parking lot, Lyle Lovett passes him on the small country road going the opposite direction. Brad follows him to next major intersection. Then, feeling like the light they're stopped at could take a while, gets out and introduces himself. Lyle, very uncomfortable with Brad's presence at this point, does the neighborly thing and shakes Brad's hand, refuses the tape he (Brad) offers and speeds on his way.

May 31 Band plays Maggie Mae's in Austin,TX with help from friends of Keith Claunch's - a band from Michigan called Urban Voodoo Juice.

June 3 Band plays Cafe Brazil in Dallas, TX w/ Keith Claunch-drums, Aden Bubeck-bass.  #1-Brazilian Breakfast is awesome: two eggs over easy, chorizo empanada, topped with spicy cream sauce, cheddar cheese, rosemary potatoes and a jalapeno on the side. $6.99

June 30 Band plays Austin Cafe Brazil. I think it's closed now.

July 1-3 Three beer-soaked nights at Maggie Mae's in Austin, TX. Brad and Keith get into huge fight on the first night over something so important that neither one could probably remember right now what it was. The next two shows are indeed very tense for the entire band. Keith Claunch-drums, Dwayne Bollmeyer-guitar, Aden Bubeck-bass, Jerry Rossen-piano Future guitar player for the UB and former roommate of Jerry Rossen, Don Cento, seems to remember Jerry complaining at great length about losing his earplugs on this trip.

July 4 Band returns home. Brad sets out for new drummer. Calls Rich Stitzel - he's playing percussion in Tropix, a local jazz fusion band that Aden also plays in.

Aug 2 Brad and Aden play private party for Montage Festival performers and staff. Brad meets fellow-white boy-rocker/songwriter Colin Boyd.

Aug 10 First gig with Rich Stitzel on drums is at Click's Billiards in Dallas of all places. Jerry Rossen plays keyboards. Nobody, including paying audience members, is really sure who Jerry Rossen is.

Aug 19 Band plays Starplex opening for Jackson Brown & John Hiatt. Aden, Rich, Jerry & newcomer Don Cento. Don plays this one gig with us and disappears. He returns in Jan ‘97 to be a "permanent" member of the band for a year. This disappearing - reappearing act of Don's will become a sort of albatross-like trademark. Also this gig was one of Don's first experiences playing slide guitar and quite honestly it sucked. But he's quite good now - really. Although he still has a tendency to disappear for a few months at a time.

Aug 25 Brad goes to see ex-band members Chad and Reggie Rueffer and Earl Darling at Club Dada in Dallas, TX. They've just formed a band called Spot who eventually get signed to Ardent Records.

Aug 26 Fatso's - Arlington, TX - Brad opens (solo) for Miss Molly & The Whips.

Oct 1 Band is booked at Maggie Mae's in Austin for the weekend and quite honestly they're dreading it (play some Stevie!!). The club calls and cancels their show at the last minute. Caravan of Dreams calls shortly after and asks them to open for Storyville that weekend. Are these two events connected? Actually, no, they are not.

Octr 19 Majestic Theater, Dallas, TX. Brad attends Michael Hedges / Leo Kotke show He (Brad) wears tan pants and a blue shirt.

Oct 29 Click's Billiards, Dallas TX - Band plays big Halloween show and costume party
Aden(Sheik) on bass; Rich(tourist) on drums; Brad(flasher) on guitar; Art Hayes(white kitty) on sax

Nov 19 Young Aden Bubeck marries the lovely Jacqueline Sprayberry. The groomsmen consist of A.J. Mathieu and members of Mattfield Green, Aden's other band at the time. Oddly enough Don Cento makes a cameo as groomsman and guitarist for MG. Brad catches a glimpse of Don out of the corner of his eye before he disappears again.

Nov 23 T-shirts arrive with CD cover photo on front (available in two colors - clear and transparent).

Dec 22 CD is finished. Over a year in the making. Order of 2,000 arrives, distribution agreement with Crystal Clear puts them in most record stores in the metroplex. JUST in time for Christmas.

Dec 23 Band plays the Rail in Fort Worth, site of the old Hop. This is keyboardist Jerry Rossen's last show with the band, and despite his virtuostic keyboard playing the band soon discovers that as an acoustic trio playing mostly rock clubs they get a musical "push" like no other without a soloist to lean on or an electric guitar to fill out their sound. They remain a trio until early ‘97 when they are joined by Don Cento (who has by that time learned to play slide guitar rather well) when his Halle-Bopp-like orbit manages to cross theirs again.

1995

Jan 14 Border's Books & Music, Ft. Worth - Live performance to promote CD

Mar 9 The Rail Ft. Worth, TX - The band plays with New Potato Caboose on tour from D.C. They just drove in from Colorado and Brad hears more stories about the clubs up there. The band can't wait to go but it will be July before the tour finally comes together.

Mar 18 Barnes & Noble Bookstore Arlington, TX - Band plays yet another successful CD promo gig. Aden lands a day job at this particular bookstore some years later.

Mar 24 Dogstar Ft. Worth, TX - hip little dive where the band meets Velton Heyworth. He & Steve Susner own the Dogstar. In ‘97 Velton does some of the photography for the band's second CD "9,000,000 beats per minute" as well as all the bands' promotional shots.

Mar 30 Trees Dallas, TX - The band lands a date at this difficult club to get into. The band meets the resident soundman James who is very scary looking but is an excellent engineer.

Apr 5 J. Gilligan's Arlington, TX - Brad is now playing every other Wednesday here - the Jagermeister is flowing and flowing and flowing and flowing . . .

Apr 14 Barnes & Noble Arlington, TX - Playing bookstores is where it's at - CD sell like crazy and our underage fans can attend. Despite the furtive efforts of Brad there's no Jagermeister.

Apr 19 Fatso's Arlington, TX. Doyle Bramhall still doesn't understand.

Apr 20 Jim's Diner Denton, TX members of Mingo Fishtrap are in attendance. Aden, Rich and Brad probably don't remember this, but Don Cento was also there with the Mingo Frishtrappers. They were all drunk and sat right down front and made many witty comments.

Apr 21 UT Arlington, TX - Earth Day, 2nd year running. In a subtle ironic twist the band's set list is printed on paper made from virgin rainforest.

Apr 27 Trees in Dallas, TX

May 3 Arlington, TX - J. Gilligan's - Brad decides this gig is more than he can handle and brings the band on board for his Wednesday night gig.

May 19 St. Louis, MO - Principia High School & College. Rich attended this college back in the day so they asked us to come up. June 13 Arlington, TX - J. Gilligan's - The band meets Peter Link. Peter just graduated from UTA with a degree in radio broadcasting and really needs something to do right now. The band hires him on as tour manager, bus driver, roadie and occasionally Brad's stunt double for their first extended tour scheduled for next month.

June 20 Arlington, TX - J. Gilligan's - The band meets John LaChance and Danny Weaver, they show the band a song they wrote. The band loves it and adds it to their set list - "Day After". Coincidentally, Danny would buy the old Hop / Rail / Aardvark four years later. Brad tries to get him to change the name of the club to "The Day After" but he won't.

June 27 Arlington, TX - J. Gilligan's - Brad meets fellow songwriter and super frontman Andrew Dutton. They compare notes, talk hair and promise to call each other every Christmas.

June 29 Bryan, TX - Dixie Theater - The band plays a date with local favorites Headwest

July 13 College Station, TX - The Tap - Band plays with Headwest again at this very large, insane A & M frat bar.  The stage is just sheets of plywood resting on empty beer kegs, I'm not even kidding.

July 15 Arlington, TX - Pike House (UTA) - The band plays their first frat party.

July 18 The band embarks on their first "official" tour crammed in Rich's Dodge Caravan with a full P.A. (and no trailer yet) and Peter Link at the helm. Whether or not the band would return from this Homeric adventure was a subject of widespread debate. Those who listened to the debate felt that Nixon won, while those who saw the debate on TV felt JFK won.

July 19 Breckenridge, CO - Alligator Lounge - We pull into town at nightfall with the odor of spent brake pads following us down the mountain pass and Little Sister (now Sister 7) blaring from the disc player and Peter Link at the wheel.

July 20 Colorado Springs, CO - First canceled show of the tour "I thought you guys were next week" We travel to Vail to see where Rich spent a reckless Summer and score a gig for this Sunday at the very impressive Garton's Saloon.

Aug 15 Arlington, TX - J. Gilligan's - The band resumes regular Tuesday gig.

Aug 31 Ft. Worth, TX - 8.0 bar - band begins a regular Thursday night gig at this ridiculous but extremely popular downtown bar.

Sept 23 Dallas, TX - Brad & Aden play a KERA 90.1 concert at The M.A.C. w/ Barton & Sweeney from OK.

Sept 27 Brad sells his Taylor guitar because he doesn't care for the way it sounds live - buys another Takamine. Aden sells his bass because he doesn't care for the way it sounds live - buys a turtle and names it Sam. Rich uses a power drill to convince Aden to buy another bass because he (Rich) feels that the turtle doesn't have enough "bottom end" live.

Oct 15 Austin, TX - Brad, Rich and friends Peter, Terrence, Peter's brother Jamie and his girlfriend, and Marvin (Melvin?) attend Phish concert at Austin Music Complex. They spend a lot of time in the parking lot. Great show.

Oct 18 Dallas, TX - Poor David's Pub - Band plays with Fletcher from Denton, which includes college buds Art Hayes & Bill Shupp. (Ironically if one was to compare all the players that had been in Fletcher to all the player that had been in BT&HUB one would see a lot of the same names - ed.)

Oct 22 Chicago, IL - Rich & Stacy get married. Rich, Brad & Aden jump on stage and play a bit the night before in some crazy bar downtown called Weeds.

Oct 31 Ft. Worth, TX - 8.0 bar - Band begins a three year run as the Halloween band for the 8.0. The band later discovers that they are cursed on this night for the rest of this run.  From damaged gear to damaged relationships every year the worst that can happen... happens.

Nov 3 Arlington, TX - The Scoreboard - Ouch! the band goes and plays a sports bar.  We spot one of the guys from Pantera in the audience.

Nov 4 Dallas, TX - Stone Pony - w/ The Moon Festival

Nov 7 Arlington, TX - The band quits it's Tuesday night gig at J. Gilligan's and adds ten years to their life expectancy.

Nov 10 Arlington, TX - J. Gilligan's - The band isn't as smart as we thought.

Nov 17 Springfield, MO Bar Next Door - the band stays with a guy called "Dumper". Don’t ask.

Nov 22 Fort Worth, TX - Bronco’s - Band's first gig (and not their last) to ever get kicked out of for refusing to play any cover songs for this seriously lame crowd and even lamer bar. It goes out of business a few months later. Brad's future sister-in-law is in attendance, she helps load out equipment while Brad argues with the manager.

Nov 23 Fort Worth, TX - The Aardvark - Jon Davis has just opened this place at the site of the old Hop (or Rail). It's Thanksgiving night, a great time was had by all.

Dec 23 Ft. Worth ,TX - Aardvark - Brad and Aden back up Elizabeth Wills and do a heck of a good job.

Dec 31 Ft. worth, TX - Aardvark - New Years with the Undulating Band, Brad wears electric-blue crushed-velvet suit with (see 9m b.p.m. CD insert) Dr. Martin's wingtips. New swing craze sweeps the nation.

Jan 2 Evergreen, CO - First canceled show of the tour - "Contract?"

Jan 3 Colorado Springs, CO - Rack n' Roll - favorite club of the band Jackyl among others, lots of wood to saw on.

Mar 9 Ft. Worth, TX - 8.0 bar. Like a really annoying, high maintenance, idiot stripper.

Mar 17 Arlington, TX - J. Gilligan's annual St. Patrick's Day Block Party. On the outdoor stage Brad scales the speakers out front much to the dismay of soundman Alan Davis. It is a rock and roll moment.

Apr 2 Hot Springs, AR - Gators - A long sad tale that involves, among other things, a toothless and de-clawed bear named Toby retired from the wrestling circuit, a traveling male strip show called "American Hunks" and a missing overnight bag belonging to Brad Thompson. Come back when you have more time and we'll tell you the story.

Apr 18 Ft. Worth, TX - The band plays a party for Fort Worth's new alternative magazine the FW Weekly.

Apr 27 Ft. Worth, TX - Brad is asked to open for his hero Michael Hedges at Caravan of Dreams, then he is asked not to. It seems Hedges does not allow openers. Brad does get to go to the show for free and Hedges signs his guitar.

July 19-20 Springfield, MO - Bar Next Door

Aug 20,21 Band travels North of Eureka, CA to camp in the Redwoods for two days.

Aug 22 San Francisco, CA - CoCo Club - tough gig, Rich's wallet gets stolen and Aden snaps the neck off of his new Warwick bass. This night is inspiration for the song "Harder". See Recordings page for lyrics.

Aug 24 San Francisco, CA - The Paragon

Aug 25 San Francisco, CA - The Infusion

Aug 26 Santa Barbara, CA - The band visits the U.S. office for Warwick basses and Seymour Duncan. They replace and repair Aden's bass neck for free and treat us all like rock stars with a tour of the facility. Actually, when we first walked in there they thought Aden was the bass player for Hootie & the Blowfish. They were expecting him that afternoon. Anyway, we head home a much happier bunch.

Aug 27 Los Angeles, CA - We stay at Aden's relatives' house before making the long drive back to Texas. We get a visit from our good buddy Don Cento whom we haven't seen in years. Says he's thinking about moving to Texas . . .hmm. The band sure could use a guy that’s good with the computer, whoops I mean on the guitar.

Sept 9-13 The band is finally mixing their CD with Terrence Slemmons at Crystal Clear Sound in Dallas. They're booked there all week.

Sept 12 Dallas, TX - Velvet Elvis - The band is booked with Zuba, the group we met this Summer in CO. However, the band cancels at the last minute due to a migraine headache Brad was having from mixing all week with Terrence Slemmons.

Sept 14 Arlington, TX - Banana Cabana, a dreadful name for a bar but we play it anyway, it's a show organized by Jean Dalton of Buddy Magazine, whom we adore. We play the most rocking acoustic set ever, Aden runs his upright bass through his wah wah and distortion pedals. dude.

Sept 16 The band’s unhappy with the mixed version of the CD that they did with Terrence. The recorded tracks sound fine, just the mixing is not what they expected. Terrence says he's "burned out" on the project and with studio work in general. The band’s out of ideas and money so the CD project gets shelved until early next year.

Sept 20 Wichita Falls, TX - The Beer Garden

Sept 27 Ft. Worth, TX - Another Berry St. Festival, we play at the Aardvark with Terry Rasor, Fletcher, and Simon and his big stupid guitar.

Oct 4 Dallas, TX - Rehab Lounge - Eesabel's Uncle opens for us. Their guitarist Kevin Grove sits in on a few tunes with us. A year-and-a-half later we ask him to join our band.

Nov 27 Dallas, TX - The Dark Room w/ The Enablers opening

Dec 12 Dallas, TX - Bronco Bowl Arena- Brad does solo opener for the Doobie Brothers in front of a crowd of 2,500. He is projected on three different screens above the stage. Weeks go by before his head returns to normal size.

December 20, 21 Galveston, TX - Yaga’s

1997

Jan 7 Arlington, TX - The band becomes a partnership with a real bank account and everything. They (Brad, actually) decide that weekly meetings are in order to keep a businesslike attitude and so it begins that every Monday afternoon Brad bores the band to tears about quarterly statements, blah, blah, press releases, blah, blah, CD sales, blah, blah, band debt, blah, blah, fig newtons, blah, blah...

Jan 8 Ft. Worth, TX - We start a weekly gig at the Square Room every Wednesday night that will last through the end of May. We still get paid. We have some fans here in S. F. which enables us to load out our gear rather quickly.

July 3 Santa Barbara, CA - Toes Tavern - We play our best show of the tour, to bad no one was there to hear it. Some svelte foreign girl purchases our three-song demo tape and asks us why it has "only three musics" on it. Don falls in love again.

Rich eats Tofu sandwiches with his uncle and Don takes a nap.

July 17 San Diego, CA - Cane’s - It’s punk night at Cane’s and we’re on the bill. Our friends Pat & Kim Kellick are there. So is Aden’s aunt, but we’re all aching to get back home so we head out straight after the gig and we don’t stop until we’re in Texas. A. J. and Aden are driving, Brad, Don and Rich dive into the coolers and proceed to drink all the beer we’ve accumulated over the last three weeks.

Several hundred people attend, awards are given for MVP during the recording process and local power pop group, Daddy’s Soul Donut follows our set whilst we mingle, sign autographs and pose for photos. All the pretentiousness of a real CD release party.

Brad and Carolyn were in their first band together in the 8th grade. We were called Stonehenge - Don’t laugh. Coordinated outfits, lots and lots of bandanas, big hair and two lead guitar players because that's the only way to do it if you're going to play the Scorps all night. The full rock-n-roll deal, man - it was great.
Terrence Slemmons or "Slembones" has now become our new bass player. After 5 1/2 years with the band Aden has gone to greener pastures swingin’ with Johnny Reno. Brad explains: A dear friend of mine asked me to play "Wish You Were Here" at a service for his brother-in-law who had recently passed away. The family chose the song to honor this man and it was indeed a wonderful song for him. The priest who seemed to be in charge told Brad that only hymns were permitted during the service. After looking at the hymn selection Brad felt that that was not what the family needed and that playing their Pink Floyd request would bless the family so much more. And it did! However Brad and Greg were immediately kicked out (in the rain) after playing the song. The priest left the funeral procession near the altar to run up into the choir loft where Brad and Greg were playing, escorted them both out the front door and then returned into the church to finish the service. No kidding. Brad's famous last words as they were sent out - "I've been thrown out of a lot nicer churches than this one, man!"
